Protect Your Dogs Eyes With A Dog Insurance Policy
Just like humans, dogs can suffer with eye conditions that affect their eyesight. This can lead to accidental injuries due to limited sight and can cause your dog pain. Your dog can also go completely blind. This article looks at some eye conditions you should make sure your dog health insurance policy covers.
Glaucoma
A common eye condition, the first signs of glaucoma are cloudy corneas, red eyes, poor vision, and dilated pupils that dont seem to respond to light as they should. Glaucoma usually presents itself very subtly, but can quickly lead to increased eyeball pressure that eventually causes pain, vomiting, and blindness. In severe cases, a veterinarian must remove the dogs eye. If you have a pet health dog insurance policy in place, youll have the financial backing to ensure the best glaucoma treatment for your dog that will possibly even save your dogs eyesight.
Cataracts
One of the most common eye problems in both humans and dogs is cataracts. Once you have seen what cataracts look like, you will be able to see for yourself without any medical training that your dog is suffering from cataracts. Distinguished by an opacity or clouding of the eyes lens, a dog with cataracts looks like he has a reflective, cloudy contact lens over his eye that blocks his vision. If cataracts become thick, your dog will likely go blind, but cataract surgery is often successful in removing the cataract and restoring eyesight. Luckily, this costly surgery is often covered by pet health insurance plans.
Entropion
Dog insurance plans will usually also cover your dogs treatment for entropion. A condition common to Cocker Spaniels, Rottweilers, Shar Peis, and Labrador Retrivers, entropion develops when the eyelid begins to fold inward toward the eyeball causing the dogs eyelashes to brush up against the cornea of the eye. This rubbing and irritation makes a dogs eyes drippy and causes constant squinting.
Dry Eyes
Dry eyes isnt just a human problem as dogs can suffer greatly with this easy to treat health problem. The key to treating dry eyes successfully is treating it early and pet insurance makes it inexpensive to do so. Shih Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, and Pugs are particularly susceptible to dry eyes, but it can affect any dog. Conditions to look out for include tearing up, cloudiness, constantly dilated eyes, swollen eyelids, blood around or in the eyes, squinting, your dog pawing at his eye, or even sudden blindness.
To find the best dog insurance plan for you, its important to take the time to make pet insurance comparisons. If you compare pet insurance, youll be surprised at the differences you find in pet health insurance plans, whether a cat health insurance, dog health insurance, or pet insurance for another type of pet.
Its a loving gesture to make sure you are always able to afford to protect your dogs health and eyesight with a simple pet health dog insurance policy. While youre at it, protect your cats eyesight as well with a cat insurance plan that makes protecting your pet and your finances affordable.

Pet Insurance Options
A good starting point is to ask the experts in your area for the names of reputable insurance companies. A veterinarian, pet trainer, breeder or even a local pet store owner are all good resources for this information. Once you have a list of potential insurers, seek additional information about these companies on the internet. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is one good resource for information including an overall rating and an industry comparison. Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) is the oldest pet insurer and has about 71% of the U.S. pet insurance market. Other notable companies include American Kennel Club (AKC) pet insurance and American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) pet insurance.
Pet insurance companies either pay a percentage of your veterinary bill or they pay a fixed amount based on a benefit schedule. The benefit schedule is uniform across the U.S. so it does not take into consideration the cost of living in different areas. A pet owner in California is probably going to be charged more than someone in Kansas for the same service.
The optimal insurance package covers the conditions or injuries most likely to affect your pet. Your veterinarian will know the types of ailments that pets in your area are most susceptible as well as those common in that breed. Other considerations include the stage in your pets life (young pets have different health concerns than older pets), whether your pet lives indoors or outdoors (outdoor pets are more susceptible to accidents), and how well you know your pets history (the previous living circumstances of an adopted pet may be unknown).
Do You Have Pet Insurance If Not, You Should Seriously Consider It
Most Americans know and understand the importance of health insurance coverage, but very few realize the importance of that same coverage for their pets. Just as you need to go to the doctor for routine and preventative care, so does your pet. If you get seriously ill or injured, you will be able to rely, for the most part, on your health insurance coverage in paying the bill, rather than be faced with massive amounts of medical debt. But, what happens if your pet gets seriously ill or injured? Could you afford to pay for emergency medical care straight out of your pocket? If the answer to that question is no, then you definitely need pet health insurance, and the sooner you get it, the better off both you and your pet will be.
As a pet owner, you are responsible for ensuring your pets health and safety, and that includes bearing the cost of your pets medical care. Your pet should have regular checkups with the veterinarian, to ensure his health and spot potential problems, as well as for vaccinations and other medical treatment as necessary. Most pets have to see the veterinarian at least twice a year, and those trips usually cost a minimum of $200 or more per visit, and that is just for routine care. If your pet needs anesthesia, vaccinations, wound care, or diagnostic tests, you could expect that figure to double, if not triple. Even if you dont have the cash on hand to pay for your pets medical treatment, it is still your responsibility to see that he or she receives the medical care needed as soon as possible, which is where pet health insurance comes into play.
When looking for your pet insurance policy, you should take the time to shop around and compare rates and different types of coverage, to make sure that you are getting a good deal with the coverage you need. The best place to start your pet insurance search is of course, on the internet. Simply do a search for pet health insurance, and you will get many, many results of providers offering you plans to choose from. Compare the plans and rates, and pick one. Your insurance coverage usually goes into effect within three days, and will remain in effect as long as you keep your premiums paid, unless you terminate coverage.
Policy coverage varies, but most plans will cover any accidental injury that occurs as soon as coverage goes into effect, but wont cover illnesses or diseases until after the first thirty days of coverage. Some pet insurance policies will allow you to pay a co-pay, and then have the veterinarians office file a claim for payment, but those policies are rare. Chances are, your pet health insurance policy will require you to pay the charges incurred out of your pocket, and then reimburse you the covered portion once you remit your claim. Yes, you will have to scrape up the money to pay for your pets care, but you will get most of that money back, so it is a win-win situation.
Just like your own health insurance policy, your pet health insurance policy will have annual deductibles that have to be met first. You can often choose the amount of your deductible, the higher your deductible is, the lower your pet insurance premiums will be. Keep in mind, if you choose a really high deductible plan because it is cheaper, you will be required to pay quite a bit of your pets veterinary bills out of your own pocket.
Pet insurance is very important, and is something that every pet owner should have. Your pet relies on you for its care and medical needs, and you have to provide for those regardless of your own situation.
Exercises For Your Injured Dog
A dog, which is injured, should not be made inactive, as it will adversely affect its health. Exercises for your dog are a must to keep it healthy and fit. Although, upon injury, the dog would probably be a little incapacitated to do various exercises, you can choose the regimen below for the proper exercises for your dog's recovery.
Type of Injury
Identifying the type and area of the injury is essential to determine which exercise will best suit the dog. Generally, dogs get injured in the legs and hence cannot perform most exercises. Sometimes however, facial injuries or other parts can also get hurt. The dog can then perform a variety of other set of exercises.
Choosing the correct exercise
Depending on the type of injury or disorder, specific exercises should only be done by your dog.
1. Swimming
One of the best exercises for an injured or recovering dog is swimming. Swimming in water reduces the load that the dogs' feet are exposed to. It is generally the legs of the dogs, which get injured and hence should be cared for the most. Swimming in warm water is a great exercise for an injured dog or one who has orthopedic and neurological injuries. The dog would feel like doing this exercise more since the pain associated with the load bearing on the joints is reduced.
The thing about swimming is that it targets a number of areas in the body for the dog to be healthy. Swimming improves the cardiovascular circulation, joint range of motion and strengthens muscles and ligaments of injured areas. Thus swimming is a great way to maintain, if not improve the health of an injured dog. However, swimming also means that there is exposure to water. If there are any flesh wounds to the dog, it is better to avoid swimming as exposing that to the water could result in infections. For such injuries it is important to let the skin heal prior to exercising or to look at other exercises which the dog can do.
2. Walking
Injured dogs can generally not walk and it is in fact advised to not walk the dogs for a particular period of time to allow the injuries to heal. However, once the healing period is over (which again depends on the type of injury), you must encourage your dog to regain its strength in the injured parts by walking gradually. In-door walking is preferred initially until the limping of the limbs is reduced.
Encouraging the dog to walk will help the muscles and ligaments to regain strength and is an important part of the recovery process for injured dogs. If the dog can is injured in a part of the body, which does not affect the way it walks, it is a very good exercise for it. In such cases, walking in all forms be it indoors or outdoors, is good for the dog. Care must be taken not to exhaust the dog as it is still recuperating from some other injury.
3. Running and Other Activities
Running and other strength and stamina activities such as hiking and playing games should be avoided until complete recovery of the injury has taken place. It is highly risky to make an injured dog run or play. However, once the dog can walk outdoors in a regular manner, slow trotting and small hikes should gradually be encouraged so that the muscles and joints strengthen more.
Keeping the type of injury that your dog has and the above-mentioned exercises, you must devise a good exercise regime for your dog so that it remains healthy and can recover faster.

Know More About Pet Insurance Types
Depending on the type of pet you have, there are a host of pet insurance options available for you on the market. However, these different insurance policies are highly detailed with a lot of fine print that needs to be understood in order to understand their meaning and how they affect the policy. If one understands the types of insurance policies available on the market for their pets, he or she would be able to ensure that his or her pet is properly protected without any extra hidden cost. These pet protection policies can be classified into three types that are detailed as follows.
Types Of Pet Insurance
As the owner of a pet, your responsibility definitely extends to much more than just providing it with the basic necessities of food, home and shelter. You also have to cater to its basic medical needs, which mean that you need to have pet insurance to ensure that proper care is taken of your darling pet. Depending on your budget and need, you can choose the best insurance option available on the market the covers your pet efficiently. Differing from company to company, insurance for pets come in the form of different plans and packages. However, on a closer look, all these can be easily classified into three main types:
* Lifetime Insurance Cover: as suggested by the name, this policy helps in insuring your pet for its whole life. Though it needs to be renewed each year, it provides an all encompassing privilege to your pet all year-round. Among all the types available, this one is the most difficult and expensive to maintain. However, it provides the best service, as you can make a claim any number of times during the year under this plan. There is also a cap on the maximum amount that can be received that is predetermined at the time of purchase of the policy.
* Per Condition Capped Cover: this is a condition capped policy under which there is a maximum amount cap for each condition or claim, but also having a maximum time limit cap. This pet insurance is not advisable for those pet owners who have pets with long-term illnesses, as there is a maximum amount limit on each condition.
* Annual Insurance Cover: though considered to be the most affordable pet insurance option available, it is also the least flexible one. Having features similar to the condition capped cover; the only difference lies in the time period of the claim. This plan allows the illness and injury claims to be made only for a period of 12 months or 1 year after which, the policy expires.
Depending on your needs and budget, it is best to choose the type of coverage that best suits all your requirements. This is because getting the right type of pet insurance is not only about getting the best value for your money; it also offers peace of mind to the pet owner. Thus, it is important to choose the insurance policy that offers the best protection covering all your beloved pet's needs. Color Forms of Fancy Rats
Compared with mice, there are relatively few color forms of the Fancy Rat. They can be divided into two groups: the basic colors and the recognized pattern markings.
Basic Colors
Rats are, certainly, among the most popular varieties with the pet owner - possibly because they appear clean! There is a Pink-eyed White, which is also known as the Albino. Young rats of this variety tend to become creamy in color as they get older. There is also a distinct Self Cream strain.
Most of the colors developed in mice are also seen in rats. The Agouti most closely resembles the ancestral Brown Rat, but the depth of brown coloration has been increased, becoming richer overall. A Silver counterpart, known as the Silver Fawn, has silver guard hairs set against a rich orange fur. The pink-eyed mutation here again exerts a diluting effect on overall body coloration. The Cinnamon mutation has an intermediate effect, creating a russet-brown shade of coat color with longer chocolate guard hairs.
Among the darker colors, Self Blacks (ideally as deep as possible) and Self Chocolate (showing no trace of white) have been developed. Other varieties corresponding to the colors seen in mice are the Champagne and the Pearl, the latter being one of the more recent innovations. A color unique to rats is the Self Mink. Ideally, these rats are coffee colored, with a bluish tint and black eyes. They are, in effect, a dilute form of the Self Chocolate.
Patterned Rats
Undoubtedly the most widely seen of the patterned varieties is the Hooded Rat. The so-called hood extends from the top of the head to the face and down to the shoulders and chin. Another colored area, the saddle, extends down the back and on to the tail. While any color is acceptable to form the hood and saddle, the remainder of the body should be white. It is not easy to produce a top exhibition specimen of this variety. A more straightforward version is the Capped, which simply lacks the saddle but retains the colored head. Another similar variety is the Variegated, which differs from the Capped in having a mixed rather than a white body color, although the belly itself must remain white.
A white belly is also characteristic of the Berkshire, which should also show white feet and a similar spot on the forehead. The remainder of the body is colored. Irish rats, by comparison, are more highly colored, with a white area forming a small equilateral triangle on the chest. White is otherwise restricted to the feet. in France, notably the Himalayan form, which was first seen around 1972. The points are darker than the body coloration, creating an attractive contrast. It does not differ significantly from the identical mutations seen in other animals, including mice and rabbits. The Himalayan itself is predominantly white in color, whereas in the Siamese the fur is pale brown. The pairing of Himalayans together should yield on average two Himalayans for every one Siamese and one Albino. Thus, a quarter of the litters should be Siamese.
