Banning Dangerous Dog Breeds
Jennifer Segal is a dog trainer who refuses to work with pit bulls, and most people agree with her reasons for refusing. She says years of improper breeding by unscrupulous breeders have made them not only aggressive but deadly, sometimes for no reason at all. "There are a number of young people, particularly male, particularly under the age of 28, who find it to be some type of cultural element to have this type of arm jewelry, pulling them around," Segal says. "It's the macho appearance." Pit bulls by their very nature were intended to be dangerous, since they were originally bred in England in the 1800's to fight other dogs in pits, which is how they got their name. Although dogfights are now rare and illegally, Merle Blaine of the Etobicoke Humane Society in Toronto says that they still happen. "People arrange fights in parks. But by the time you get there it's pretty well over. The dog that loses the fight is left behind, usually a mess." And these kinds of stories add to the reputation of pit bulls, making the breed a bad breed.
You hear stories in the news all the time about unprovoked attacks by pit bulls. A man in Toronto was walking two pit bulls for a friend when they suddenly turned on him and had to be shot by police. A week earlier, a family in Fredericton was out walking their little Shi Tzu when a neighbor's rottweiler attacks and kills the little dog. A week before that, a woman in Ontario and her 7-year old son watched in horror as her husband tries to keep the family puppy away from a raging pit bull, and the pit bull latches onto the man's arm and won't let go. Such waves of deadly attacks seem to increase each year, and Ontario's attorney general, Michael Bryant, had finally had enough. Ontario was the first Canadian province to ban pit bulls, calling them "ticking time bombs" because of their unpredictable tendency to attack people and other animals even when unprovoked.
But not everyone subscribes to the idea of banning dogs that might be dangerous simply on the basis of their breed. The president of the Golden Horseshoe American Pit Bull Terrier Club, Sandra Always, has owned and bred pit bull terriers for over 16 years. Her organization, the Dog Legislation Council of Canada, lobbies actively against any legislation that will ban specific breeds of dogs. "A dog needs responsible ownership regardless of breed," she told CBC Radio. "You train it, you contain and you socialize it. If you ban these guys, what's next? Italy started with a banned list of 13 breeds. They're up to over 40 now. They just banned Welsh Corgis!" Always believes that instead of a law banning pit bulls, owners should have to pay a special licensing fee and take special training, so it will be more difficult to own a pit bull.
Always is joined in her opinion by Dr. Norma Guy, a teacher of animal behavior at the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown. Guy says that the biggest problem with banning a breed like the pit bull is that it can be difficult to identify a dog as a specific breed, so enforcing the law would be difficult, if not impossible. The real problem is not the dogs, she says, but people behaving irresponsibly with their dogs. "I'm in favor of really promoting responsible ownership and passing legislation to enforce that," Guy says. "We have to get at the people [who keep vicious dogs]. If you take away the pit bulls, they will move onto another breed. You have to look at stopping individual people who have proven themselves to be irresponsible owners from keeping dogs." Guy believes it is too easy to own any dog, particularly a potentially dangerous one. Owners don't realize that "it's like having a toddler for 12 years-a toddler with teeth."
The ownership of a dangerous dog may end up being a financial decision in addition to being a legal one. A Calgary man found that his home insurance had been canceled after his insurance company decided it would no longer cover people who kept pit bulls, rottweilers, german shepherds, or Doberman pinschers. One of the largest insurance companies in North America, Allstate, has a policy that even a mixed breed dog whose bloodlines may include any of those breeds is considered unacceptable. Such policies are a growing trend in the insurance industry. The bottom line is that any dog owner who chooses to own a breed of dog that may be considered dangerous may also have to choose a place to live that will tolerate their choice of dog. And the more vicious dog attacks there are, the fewer such places there will be.

Pet Care Insurance- The Great Dilemma
Pet Care Insurance is usually neglected by nearly all pet owners. The majority of us believe in insurance for our homes and automobiles, so why not our pets! In this article we will examine (1) two the important reasons concerning why many pet owners stay away from purchasing pet care insurance and (2) discuss what things you need to think about before buying insurance for your pet.
Pet Care Insurance is for a lot of pet owners an expense that is usually put on the proverbial "back burner" and sadly forgotten about until it is simply too late. Most people would be of the same opinion that it is most sensible to have ample vehicle insurance before an accident or have sufficient home insurance coverage prior to a fire, yet ask a pet owner about pet care insurance and in most cases "they haven't really thought about it or have not yet got around to it".
This may seem very shocking to hear since most pet owners do love their pets, care for them in other ways, and customarily think of their pet as part of the family. So why this reluctance on the part of pet owners to invest in some form of insurance for their precious pet?
One reason might simply be a lack of knowledge with respect to the cost of having a sick or injured pet treated by a veterinarian. It is not unusual to find that medical costs for treating a dog with a busted leg may reach as high as $1000 and for a cat with a busted leg around the $300 mark. Naturally one can expect these costs to vary depending upon where in the world you reside and the supply of veterinarian services. There may even be fluctuations inside the same geographic area depending upon if you live in a rural area with only a few veterinary clinics, or in large urban setting where you've more selection, more competition and thus lower prices. Then there are the hidden costs like kenneling of an hurt pet while in the recovery phase following an operation and the costs of post-recovery medicine including antibiotics and pain-killers which adds more on to the total cost of the treatment.
Another reason why many pet owners may avoid getting pet care insurance stems from the naive belief that "it will not happen to me". True there are many animals that live an extended and healthy life while rarely seeing the inside of a vet clinic except for their yearly checkup and shots. Regrettably recent statistics indicate that 65% of pet owners are making unplanned visits to their local veterinary clinic and are coming away in shock and disbelief by the size of bill following treatment.
Either one of the above reasons can be used to make a strong case for caring pet owners to seriously reflect on buying pet care insurance. Like most types of insurance, it might appear expensive and not required in the beginning, especially if your animal is young and in good physical condition. This must be carefully measured against the other scenario of having to pay veterinary bills at full price in a situation where numerous visits are required should your animal become badly injured or ill.
Making the decision to invest in pet care insurance is surely a proactive step in the right direction, however this does open the door for even more questions. Recent years have seen a sharp rise in the numbers of insurance companies expanding into this pet insurance market together with more choice in the type of insurance for pets. Today's pet owner needs to consider a large range of variables prior to choosing a specific pet insurance policy.
One standard consideration that appears to be central in most pet care insurance policies is the age, health and kind of the animal. The first thing that should "jump out" at you is the requirement to consider buying insurance for your pet when they are young and healthy if you want to get the very best deal for your money. Added insurance factors would include:
-higher costs to insurance a pure-bred as opposed to a mixed-breed
-some types of pets including dogs are generally less expensive to insure than cats
-more exotic animals may require more specialized treatment and therefore higher expenses to insure.
Most pet care insurance companies offer a variety of insurance plans to cater to their customers needs. Often the "all-inclusive" plans are most popular as they are usually more flexible and some may even reimburse unforeseen costs associated with the pet becoming unwell or injured unexpectedly such as your hotel bill in case you are required to stay away from home having driven a great distance to bring your pet to the vet clinic.
Many pet insurance plans have some type of liability protection where the pet owner is going to be insured if ever the animal hurts another individual or causes damage to personal property. Some pet insurance companies even offer special policies for pets whenever they get lost or get stolen. Pet owners may be reimbursed for how much they spent on advertising for that lost animal and will also recover a portion of the pet's original price if it isn't found.
In the end, the onus is on you, the pet owner, to make sure that you not just understand the terms of the policy, but also are informed of what's not covered to prevent any nasty surprises later on.
Pet care insurance shouldn't be taken for granted. Given the financial and "piece of mind" benefits, pet owners shouldn't think twice about buying insurance for their beloved family friend. As with any other kind of insurance, it pays to shop around for pet care insurance, and this has never been less difficult than now. Many highly regarded pet care insurance companies advertise over the internet nowadays so it is simply a matter of spending time in front of your computer system to learn what is available and obtain the top value with your money.

Making A Nursing Home Feel Like Home
As people get older, it can become increasingly difficult to undertake personal care tasks and maintain a working home. Whilst many older people live happily and independently in their own homes, others choose to move into a nursing home because of ill health or limited mobility.
Nursing homes have the advantage of offering a sense of community as well as regular activities for residents to take part in. As a relative of someone who has moved into a nursing home, you may also be reassured to know that residential homes can also offer suitable health care and medical attention.
If a dependent relative such as your mother, father or grandparents is taken into a nursing home they will most likely want to take their belongings with them. The most recent survey from the Office for National Statistics reports that older women are more likely than men to live in nursing homes, since 23% of women over 85 were residents in care compared to 12% of men of the same age. These older women may enjoy decorating their room with a few prized possessions, to create a new home for themselves and feel more at ease.
Perhaps your relative would like some family photos to put on the wall, a small piece of furniture that has stayed in the family, or a few trinkets and decorative items. Just a few touches of individuality will bring any room in a nursing home to life, and make it feel like a home from home. You will understandably want to make your relative as comfortable as possible, and helping them take their treasured belongs with them is one way to do this.
You can also offer your dependant relative peace of mind by protecting their belongings financially too. Your home insurance may well cover any belongings that your dependent relative has with them in their nursing home, often up to a value of 2,500 for any one claim. Whilst accidental damage is covered, theft will only tend to be covered if there is evidence of a forcible or violent entry into the building.
So whilst a nursing home is able to care for your loved one, you are able to financially protect your loved ones belonging. This peace of mind means that you and your relative can enjoy spending time together in their new home.

Why Horse Riders Need Insurance
There are several types of Equestrian insurance. There are insurance coverages for you and your own personal horse, and insurance that covers riders when engaging in equestrian activities on other people's horses. All of these provide a vital coverage.
We love horses and like to believe they love us. Even the gentlest horse can be spooked, or be involved in an accident while being ridden. In these circumstances it is best to have coverage that will provide medical insurance for yourself as a rider, or to prevent others from suing you on their behalf in an accident.
Typically these policies cover riders ages 5 to 75 and protect them in the case of injuries due to accidents of all types when involved in horseback riding activities. Some coverage also provides protection while traveling and competing in shows and can be purchased to cover the rider as well as the horse itself. Most of the policies can be individualized to the specific needs for the most basic to the most advanced riders.
Student riders are well-advised to get personal rider's insurance to protect themselves from common accidents that can occur in class situations. You and your horse may be very reliable but you cannot count on other's skills or horses to be as reliable as your own.
Riding at a school, or someone else's horse often involves signing a waver releasing the owners from responsibility should an accident occur. They are protecting themselves because they realize that anything can happen when around such large animals. You need to protect yourself as well.
As you graduate and develop your skills certain equestrian elements can be fraught with their own inherent dangers. Handling hotter horses, or engaging in activities such as jumping, cross-country, or other extreme sports make having rider's insurance a necessity. These are not the only times when rider's insurance is a smart move, however. Even simple pleasure rides on a nearby trail can hold unseen dangers. Loose dogs, downed trees, or a car backfiring can give even the calmest of horses a start, and unseat the best of riders.
There is never a time when dealing with animals that, as loving as they may be, are still just animals and weight anywhere from eight to ten times as much as the average human is completely safe. Make sure you have the coverage you need to provide you with assistance if and when you need it. Just like health, car, and home insurance, we hope we will never have to use it, but are sure happy it is there when we do.
Draped In Insurance Plans
Change is the order of the day. There was a time when bullocks and horses transported us from place to place. In today's world, bullocks and horses are themselves moved from place to place in trucks that are driven by men. There was a time when all that a girl could hope for was to marry a good and sufficiently wealthy man. These days, women make their own money and only when they feel equipped enough do they think about marriage. There was a time when the only available insurance plan was on life. Nowadays, most things can get an insurance. From diamond jewelry to pets to footballers' feet, any and everything is subject to being insured.
The most common types of insurance, of course, are motor insurance and home insurance. You can insure your car so that later on, making repairs will not pump out all your cash. Moreover, several countries insist that no car should be allowed to cruise without its first having got insured. Are you surprised at that rule? Well, you really should not be. After all, given the large numbers of accidents on the road, it makes sense to insure the vehicles at the very onset. Additionally, the insurance providers of today have come up with a plan that covers third party cars. Thus, if your car rams into another, your insurance deal will give the cash to pay the repair bills of that vehicle as well.
Getting insurance for your house is not something that you can avoid. Things like fires and burglaries do not need to be invited. They come uninvited and either burn or run away with much of your hard-earned dough. A good insurance plan will take care of these unwanted eventualities. At least you will not have to add to your anxiety by worrying about how you might manage if such a thing does happen. You have insured your house after all.
Medical insurance is yet another necessity. It makes sense to cover yourself for possible medical problems. So, if it does happen that you need to undergo an urgent operation, you will not have to put it off because you don't have the money.
One up-coming insurance type is the travel insurance. This is a sensible option for people who are traveling to cities that are at a distance from their home bases. You never know what medical problems may occur. To be stuck without sufficient money in an unfamiliar city can be nerve-racking.
Each dawn sees the start of yet another type of insurance. I wonder what insurance plans have emerged today?
Home Insurance Is Not Enough - Consider Medical And Pet Too
You can purchase insurance from an insurer, the company that sells the insurance, for almost any imaginable risk. The most popular insured risks are: home insurance -- to protect against risks of flood, fire, theft, or occupier injury; car insurance -- to hedge against risk of accidents, theft, or personal injury; and, medical insurance -- to help safeguard the health of you and your family in times of medical need.
Insurance is a form of risk management primarily used to hedge against the risk of a contingent loss. Insurance is defined as the transfer of the financial risk of a potential loss, from one party (the insured) to another (the insurer), in exchange for a premium.
Other forms of more exotic insurance include insuring your pet's health, insurance to monetize particular parts of the body like a dancer's legs, or insuring a priceless work of art. You may also consider business insurance, and insure the many and substantial risks associated with owning your own business.
Insurance companies make money by selling large volumes of policies or plans, and spreading the risk of loss across a large segment of the insured group. In theory, the insurance company must sell enough insurance at a price that allows the amount coming in, invested over time, to cover the losses incurred by the insured group. This is important to you because the amount of your insurance premium contributes to the total pool, whether or not you ever need the insurance. However, in my respectful opinion you always need the insurance, you may never use it, but you always need it.
In the event of, for example, a home fire, the monthly insurance premium paid for home insurance (and in particular fire insurance) becomes insignificant to the cost of buying a new home. It does not take much imagination to picture the devastation to your finances, family, and mental health if you were to experience a catastrophic home fire and not have adequate insurance. You can completely mitigate against this devastating loss for the price of a relatively small monthly premium. In my opinion, not having sufficient home insurance is literally playing with fire. If you never use the insurance consider it good fortune; because, it means your house didn't burn down and you were able to help finance through premiums the pool of financial resources that assisted a family who's house maybe did burn down.
Medical insurance is, for most people, equally or more important. A popular and important related type of insurance is disability insurance. In the event of medical problems, having proper insurance to cover hospital expenses, drug costs, and other related medical fees is a must. In the absence of good health insurance you are at unnecessary risk. If, as a result of the same illness, you are unable to work for any significant period of time, disability insurance plays a critical role in providing for the financial needs of you and your family.
Please consider insurance when setting your financial priorities, and relax knowing that you are part of a community of like minded individuals that protect against unexpected loss.

banfield-pet-insurance
The plan comes in different types, each of which is supposed to suit the certain healthcare requirements of pets along with the budget of the pet owner. In general, there are four insurance options that owners can select from. This consists of the optimum, primary, basic plus, and basic well being plans. Primary and basic plans are just available for kittens and puppies. Meanwhile, premium plans offer annual dental care, and up to 20% discounts on other services which can be easily availed in any Banfield clinics.
Whether you decide to apply for somekeyword for dogs or PetSmart insurance coverage for cats, all you should do is to go on the nearest PetSmart shop to refill and submit the form. The official PetSmart website also has a listing of stores participating in this program, and interested pet owners can have an easy time looking for the store near their area. They can also sign-up at any Banfield Center or through telephone as a result of dialing 1-866-277-PETS.
Pet owners may pay either in advance or via monthly fees for the plan. They also ought to sign an annual contract to sanction their purchase of the pet insurance plan.
.
Banfield insurance, or Banfield International, has been in service to pets everywhere in the states since 1955, and has international presences rooted in the uk and Mexico. Known for quality health maintenance and an incredible staff, there still seems to be some issues regarding their own service. Their website cites nutrition, vaccination, and other puppy care services, and they have plans which you could apply for. But let's see what actual people who've disposed plans with them have to say.
There are great sites online that offers pet owners to share their experiences with their insurers-it's an excellent place to scout for actual reviews from real people who care for their pets just as much as you care for yours. In one in the sites, Banfield insurance gets a well balanced 5. 7 out with 10 score. Most positive comments were with regard to personable and amiable staff members, and the quality of service rendered on their centres, like the overall procedure of vaccinations, spaying or neutering, and parasite control shots. Meanwhile, negative comments revolved within the company's inability to do anything each time a serious incident happens, or when a chronic illness afflicts pets. Perhaps this arises from the confusion of what Banfield is usually and what their plans are generally.
To stop the confusion from dispersing further: Banfield insurance is not really an actual insurance corporation. It is generally a membership plan to provide wellness benefits for pet animals. For service, members should accordingly check out Banfield pet hospitals. This practically means that typically, Banfield insurance (we'll nevertheless call it 'insurance') is perfect for managed and preventive care, not for chronic conditions. It's a good plan for taking care of your pet's good wellness, but when a sudden and serious problem arises, you probably won't be ready to depend on it and often an actual insurance policy from an insurance corporation. If you pay close attention to their plans you'll discover that they're mostly plans that help you budget for continued pet care for services they already offer-none which are for chronic and serious problems.
Pet Care Insurance - The Great Debate
Pet Care Insurance is for many pet owners an expense that is often put on the proverbial "back burner" and then sadly forgotten about until it is too late. Most people would agree that it is very prudent to have sufficient automobile insurance before an accident or having enough home insurance coverage prior to a fire, yet ask a pet owner about pet care insurance and in most cases "they haven't really thought about it or haven't yet got around to it".
This may seem very surprising to hear since most pet owners do love their pets, care for them in other ways, and generally think of their pet as part of the family. So why this reluctance on the part of pet owners to invest in some type of insurance for their precious pet?
One reason may simply be a lack of knowledge with respect to the cost of having a sick or injured pet treated by a veterinarian. It is not unusual to find that medical costs for treating a dog with a broken leg may reach as high as $1000 and for a cat with a broken leg around the $300 mark. Naturally you can expect these costs to vary depending upon where in the world you live and the availability of veterinarian services. There may even be fluctuations within the same geographic region depending upon if you live in a rural area with only a few vet clinics, or in large urban setting where you have more choice, more competition and therefore lower prices. Then there are the hidden costs such as the boarding of an injured animal while in the recovery stage following an operation and the costs of post-recovery medicine such as antibiotics and pain-killers which adds even more on to the total cost of the treatment.
A second reason why many pet owners may avoid getting pet care insurance stems from the naive belief that "it will not happen to me". True there are many pets that live a long and healthy life while rarely seeing the inside of a vet clinic except for their yearly checkup and shots. Unfortunately recent statistics indicate that 65% of pet owners are making unplanned visits to their local vet clinic and are coming away in shock and disbelief at the size of bill following treatment.
Either one of the above reasons can be used to make a strong case for caring pet owners to seriously consider buying pet care insurance. As with most types of insurance, it may appear costly and not necessary in the beginning, especially if your pet is young and in good health. This needs to carefully measured against the other scenario of having to pay vet bills at full price in a situation where multiple visits are required should your pet become seriously injured and ill.
Making the decision to invest in pet care insurance is certainly a proactive step in the right direction, however this does open the door for even more questions. Recent years have seen a sharp rise in the numbers of insurance companies expanding into this pet insurance market along with more choice in the type of insurance for pets. Today's pet owner needs to consider a wide range of factors before selecting a specific pet insurance policy.
One standard consideration that appears to be central in most pet care insurance policies is the age, health and type of pet. The first thing that should "jump out" at you is the need to consider purchasing insurance for your pet when they are young and healthy if you wish to get the best deal for your money. Additional insurance factors would include:
higher costs to insurance a pure-bred compared to a mixed-breed
some types of pets such as cats are generally cheaper to insure than dogs
more exotic pets may require more specialized treatment and therefore higher costs to insure.
Most pet care insurance companies offer a variety of insurance plans to cater to their customers needs. Often the "all-inclusive" plans are most popular as they tend to be more adaptable and some may even repay unexpected costs associated with the pet becoming sick or injured unexpectedly such as your hotel bill if you are forced to stay away from home having driven a great distance to bring your pet to the vet clinic.
Many pet insurance plans come with some type of liability protection where the pet owner will be insured if ever the animal injures another individual or causes damage to personal property. Some pet insurance companies even offer special policies for pets whenever they get lost or stolen. Pet owners may be reimbursed for how much they spend on advertising for the lost pet and will also recover a portion of the pet's original price if it is not found.
In the end, the onus is on you, the pet owner, to ensure that you not only understand the terms of the policy, but also are aware of what is not covered to avoid any nasty surprises later on.
Pet care insurance shouldn't be taken for granted. Given the monetary and "piece of mind" benefits, pet owners should not think twice about buying insurance for his or her beloved household friend. As with any other kind of insurance, it pays to shop around for pet care insurance, and this has never been less difficult than now. Many highly regarded pet care insurance companies advertise on the internet these days so it is simply a matter of spending time in front of your computer system to find out what is available and acquire the top value for your money.

No More Hard Times Understanding Home Owner's Insurance
Find out what kind of home replacement coverage is offered on your home owners insurance policy. Some will guarantee replacement while others will limit the amount of money you will get if your home is destroyed. Some insurance companies have a cap on the payments to a percentage of the face value of your policy. When trying to save money on your homeowner's insurance, you should check out companies that offer multiple-policy discounts, which could be 10 percent or more if you have more than one type of policy with the same company. Examples would be if you had auto or health with a company, and then purchased homeowner's with the same company. Research your home on your local central appraisal district's web site. When selling a home, many real estate agents tend to round up or exaggerate the size of your home. If you find that your home is smaller than you were led to believe, you can decrease your premiums by insuring a smaller house. If you have a home security system, make sure you're using it correctly! Your home owner's insurance will give you a discount for adding a security system, but that discount will disappear if someone is able to rob your house while the system is in place. Don't let that happen to you! If you have high-value items, they may not be covered completely by typical homeowner's insurance. For example, expensive jewelry may need to be appraised, and then the insurer will issue a rider to cover the item in case it's stolen or damaged. Make sure to mention high-value items to your agent, to make the process of filing a claim easier, should you need to do so. Make sure that you have a record of everything that is covered under your home insurance. Make a detailed list, and take pictures of all valuables. It also helps to keep receipts for big ticket items. There is free software online that will enable you to create a home inventory, room by room. If you need to make a claim, having all this information on hand will help to speed up the process. Make sure you are covered in case of a disaster! No one wants to pay for something that they most likely had no control over. If you don't get the home owners insurance you need, you will most likely pay in the long run. Mother nature will damage your possessions, but won't pay you back for it! Make sure your insurance company knows how to reach you, if you cannot live in your home due to damage. For example, if you experience a fire or natural disaster making your home inhabitable, provide your insurance company with your temporary contact information, whether it is a hotel or a friend's house. Buy all your insurance policies from the same insurance company. By purchasing your home insurance, contents insurance, health insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, travel insurance, flood insurance, pet insurance, mortgage insurance, credit insurance and auto insurance from the same insurance provider, you could be eligible for a large multi-policy discount. Check the financial stability and health of the insurance company that you are considering for your home insurance policy. You want to make sure that they will have the money to pay the claim if you find yourself in the position to need to file one. Do this quarterly after you open the policy as well. Do not procrastinate when it comes to protecting your home. Since you never know what may happen in the future, it is important to assure that you will be protected financially if something happens to your house. Use the home owner's insurance advice in this article to safeguard yourself and your family against the unexpected.

How to insure your pet
Depending on the breed of your dog, you may either not qualify to receive insurance from certain companies or you may face a significantly higher home insurance premium. Many insurers believe certain types of dog to be dangerous and therefore high-risk. So although dog owners consider their pet to be as much as family-member as anybody else, they must also be considered expensive assets in terms of homeowner insurance.
There is a debate raging between dog owners, organizations and home insurance companies around the topic of breed discrimination. As the temperament of dogs can vary greatly even within a breed, it is controversial to consider any one breed more high-risk than another. Never-the-less, dog owners should be aware of whether their particular breed is deemed dangerous by their insurer so they can estimate their liability coverage and the price of their quotes.
The factors and criteria by which homeowner insurance companies determine how dangerous different canine breeds are can vary between companies. Dog owners should be well aware of how dangerous their pet is deemed to be before taking out or renewing their cover.
Because of the varying criteria used by different companies to determine the risk-level of each breed, dog owners should research and compare home insurance extensively before settling for a policy. They should also speak to an agent for guidance but shouldnt be surprised if the agent refuses to offer any cover at all or if he/she does, it is at a high rate.
The size of the dog is a key factor in how dogs are evaluated for home insurance. Small dogs are less likely to be a problem as they might be less likely to bite. Larger dogs, however, will always be evaluated by how violent they are, could be or the harm they are capable of inflicting.
The bite is another key factor is determining the risk level. Breeds with a history of inflicting frequent bites to humans are inevitably going to cost more to insure than those without. Unfortunately, the dog owner has to pay the price, fairly or unfairly, for the history of the breed of his dog. However, according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, 4.5 million Americans suffer dog bites every year so it is an important factor that must be carefully considered.
Reputation of the breed is also a key factor. Insurance companies collect reports involving dogs made by authorities such as the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention and use them to judge the risk level of the breed and how dangerous it is to its owner.
Highest risk Canine Breeds according to Homeowner insurers
The following breeds are considered as the most high-risk and those homeowners should avoid:
Akita
Alaskan Malamute
Chow Chow
Doberman Pinscher
German Shepherd
Pit Bull
Presa Canario
Rottweiler
Siberian Husky
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Wolf hybrid
Dog owners with any of the above breeds can expect to pay a high homeowners insurance premium. In some cases, dog owners can consider themselves lucky even to find a homeowners insurance provider willing to insure them and their beloved pet.

Looking After Your Pooch
Have the right pet insurance in place to pay the bills if your pet needs medical treatment is essential. With so many different companies to choose from and different types of insurance too, knowing which one to choose can be a difficult choice. No one likes to think about their pet getting hurt, but it''s important to insure your pet against injury and illness if you want to secure their long term health.
You can keep the price down by opting to have an excess to make an already cheap quote even cheaper, and the bigger the excess the smaller the premium. Because pet insurance doesn''t work in the same way as health insurance for people you normally have to pay the vet bills yourself before claiming back from your policy.
Some providers will cover everything whilst others will cover the bare minimum, and the price of the premium is a good indication of how comprehensive the policy is. More and more insurance companies are offering totally comprehensive cover which will pay for vaccinations, operations and therapy such as physiotherapy which could be needed following an accident.
There are two sorts of insurance for your pet; non-lifetime and lifetime. Non-lifetime insurance will include clauses meaning if you''ve claimed on something one year, you''ll not be able to claim for it again. This is obviously not advisable for pets who are frequently ill. Lifetime insurance is much wider ranging and will protect your pet against problems it suffers during its life. However some companies include exhaustive clauses, so be careful of these. An exhaustive clause will put a limit on how many times something can be claimed for, so once a certain claim has been made the prescribed number of times you cannot claim for it again. Alternatively some exhaustive clauses will state you cannot claim more than a certain number of times in one year at all, so if you have a very poorly pet these policies are clearly not for you.
It might be out of love for your animal but try to approach buying pet insurance with a sense of rationally and don''t spend extra money where you don''t need to. Balance out what your pet needs and what you want to spend. For example older animals will need more comprehensive cover than younger ones.
Unusual breeds and species inevitably cost more to insure, so if you''re planning to buy an unusual pet then you should bear this in mind and perhaps do a little research into how much they''ll cost to insure. Species which are more likely to get ill will have a higher premium, such as Labradors who frequently have joint problems in their older years.
Because you''re going to be paying your pet insurance for quite a long time you should try your best to find a competitive quote. Try using price comparison sites and also going direct to individual insurance provider websites to track down the best deal and best policy conditions for you and your pet. Try making a list before you search so you can check off the things which you want to insure your pet against.
Be sure also to keep an eye out for special offers, as many companies will offer discounts throughout the year. You might also be able to save money by insuring all your pets with one company, and some companies will insure your pet for free if other insurance (such as car and home insurance) is taken out with them too.
