Insurance for Dangerous Animals or Pets
Owning a pet that is classified by the law as dangerous can be quite a handful sometimes. This category includes the breeds of naturally aggressive dogs, larger species of felines and exotic pets with potentially harmful defensive mechanism for other animals or even humans. Most insurance companies are reluctant to provide policies for these types of pets because, if the owner does not take all the necessary precautions, the risk that they will injure someone is quite high and lawsuit costs paid by the insurance company will be equal.
It is best that, before you decide on the type of pet you are purchasing for your household, you verify if it is or not classified as a high risk race by insurance companies. Many breeds of dogs such as Rottweiler or Doberman are enlisted among the dangerous ones, therefore you either will not be able to purchase insurance for them or the costs of the premiums will be very high.
However, there are companies available on the market that provide insurance for different types of dangerous pets. These insurance companies will offer policies with special terms and conditions for the owners of high risk pets, in addition to the normal health insurance of the animal. The conditions imposed by the insurance company for the dangerous animal owners are pretty strict and not respecting them can lead to the voiding of the contract. This includes making your pet wear a muzzle on the street every time you walk it, having the fence in your yard at a certain height so your animal will not be able to run out and cause damage to property or people, constant supervising of your pet, a certain amount of training in how to deal with this companion, etc. If you own for example a rare specimen of snake or spider that spends most of his life in an aquarium, you have to be sure that it has no means to escape his environment. The smaller it is, the harder it is to find it, so make sure to secure his home.
Do not take caring for your dangerous companion lightly, the risk you might be exposing yourself and others is extremely high. Respect all the terms and conditions stipulated in your insurance policy, not only because it could void the contract, but also because it can take you and others out of harm's way.
